RELI 111  (3)  World Religions: Asian and Aboriginal Experiences

An introduction to world religions. The focus is on Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism and North American aboriginal religions. (3:0:0)

Prerequisite: None.

RELI 112  (3)  World Religions: The Western Traditions

An introduction to world religions. The focus is on Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. (3:0:0)

Prerequisite: None.

RELI 201  (3)  Critical Bible Study: The Old Testament/Hebrew Scriptures

An introduction to the historical, religious and philosophical significance of the Old Testament/Hebrew Scriptures, using techniques of critical Bible study. The course pays attention to the tensions between the "official line" and the "story line" within each biblical book. This course has no positive or negative religious presuppositions. RELI 201 was formerly called PHIL 202; credit will not be granted for both courses. (3:0:0)

Prerequisite: Any one of ENGL 111, PHIL 100, PHIL 111, PHIL 112, or RELI 112.

RELI 202  (3)  Critical Bible Study: The New Testament

An introduction to the historical, religious and philosophical significance of the New Testament, using the techniques of critical Bible study. The emphasis is on reading each biblical book for its individual meaning, rather than fitting it into an overall interpretive scheme. This course has no positive or negative religious presuppositions. RELI 202 was formerly called PHIL 203; credit will not be granted for both courses. (3:0:0)

Prerequisite: Any one of RELI 112, RELI 201, ENGL 111, PHIL 100, PHIL 111, or PHIL 112.

RELI 230  (3)  Emerging Religions

An exploration of the history, current practices, and beliefs of modern religious movements including New Age, Wicca, Mormonism, Pentecostalism, Baha'i, and Falun Gong. (3:0:0)

Prerequisite: Either RELI 111; RELI 112; or RELI 201 and RELI 202.
